RAILWAY RECRUITMENT BOARD (RRB)

Syllabus :-

The RRB Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) is a well-known exam for various non-technical posts in Railways.
The exam is conducted by 21 RRBs in various regions. The following 9 job profiles fall under this exam:

  1. Assistant Station Master (ASM)
  2. Commercial Apprentice (CA)
  3. Traffic Apprentice (TA)
  4. Senior Clerk Cum Typist
  5. Traffic Assistant
  6. Enquiry Cum Reservation Clerk (ECRA)
  7. Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist (JAA)
  8. Senior Time Keeper
  9. Goods Guard


The selection procedure includes the following stages of the exam:

RRB NTPC Prelims or Stage 1 Exam

RRB NTPC Mains or Stage 2 Exam

RRB NTPC Stage 3/ Aptitude or skill test

Document verification

Medical test


The RRB NTPC Syllabus for Stage 1 and Stage 2 exam is almost same for all the four subjects. The exam pattern also contains the same subjects in both the stages.


RRB NTPC Stage-1 exam is held for all the posts but the Stage-2 exam is not conducted for those who have applied for
the posts of CA, TA, ECRC & Goods Guard. A merit list is released for them based on their performance in the 1st Stage examination.

 

RRB NTPC Syllabus – Stage 1 & Stage 2 Exam

The RRB NTPC Exam syllabus for all the 9 posts includes the following subjects. The same should be followed for NTPC
2nd Stage candidates except those who have applied for CA, TA, ECRC and Goods Guard posts.

  1. General Awareness
  2. General Intelligence & Reasoning
  3. Arithmetic
  4. General Science

The detailed syllabus of the above-mentioned subjects is as follows:

 

  1. General Knowledge: This Section is very important for RRB NTPC Exam. The questions from this section is based on
    the following topics. Current Affairs, National and International History, India and World General Science, Indian Economy, Indian Geography,
    Indian Constitution, Indian Culture and Heritage, Indian Polity, Science and
    Technology Etc.
  2. General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies Space and visualization, Similarities, Decision-making, Problem solving, Arithmetical number series, Differences, Arithmetical reasoning, Analysis,
    Judgment, Relationship concepts, Visual memory, Observation, Discrimination, Verbal and figure classification, Coding- decoding etc.
  3. Arithmetic Ability : Percentages Pipes and cisterns Profit and loss Time and work Simplifications Boats and
    streams Mensuration Averages Time and distance Problems on ages Interest Data interpretation etc.
  4. General Science: There are 4 sections in General Science section. The detailed syllabus of each section is provided below. 

    Physics: Units & dimensions Force and laws of motion Gravitation Work & energy Sound, Light & human eye
    Electricity Magnetic effects of electric current Sources of energy Atomic & nuclear physics Electronics Scientific instruments

    Chemistry: Atomic structure Periodic classification of elements Chemical bonding Oxidation and reduction Acids,
    bases & salts Behavior of gases Electrolysis Carbon &it’s compounds Fuels Metallurgy Metals & non-metals

    Biology: Fundamental unit of life Tissues Diversity in living organisms Food resources Life processes Control &

    Environment studies :

    The exam for both the stages i.e. RRB NTPC Prelims and Mains is objective type and will be conducted only in online

RRB NTPC Prelims Exam Pattern

The RRB NTPC Exam Pattern for all the 9 posts i.e. TC, TA, CA, ECRC, JAA, Senior Time Keeper, Station Master, Senior
Clerk and Goods Guard is as follows:

  • A total of 120 questions will be asked in the CBT for NTPC Stage-2 Exam.
  • Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark.
  • Negative marking of 0.333 marks is set for each wrong answer.
  • 90 minutes or 1.5 hours’ time is provided to candidates to complete their NTPC Stage-2 paper


RRB NTPC Stage-3 Exam or Aptitude Test pattern

  • RRB NTPC Stage-3 Pattern and syllabus is helpful for the candidates who have applied for
    the positions of ASM and TA.
  • If you are one of those who gets selected for the Senior Clerk, JAA, Senior Time Keeper, then you must appear for
    the typing test.
  • The typing test for the above-mentioned posts requires that the candidate typing speed should be at least 30
    wpm in English and 25 wpm in Hindi.
